Is there any advice/resources for a first year teacher planning for Grade 8?

I am will be teaching Grade 8 in September starting from scratch, I have never taught before, this will be my first year. I am trying to start thinking about what my program and long range plans will look like, but also setting up a classroom, and first week of school activities. I teach in Ontario so if there is anything from the area that would be wonderful, if not I would still love to hear it. Basically any advise would be appreciated Thanks!
